Who doesn’t want an arty-crafty place to be in? Especially in this age where there’s an unspoken but very palpable competition on Instagram posts that gave birth to the hashtag #igworthy.
A month ago, my family and I visited Singapore. It is our first time to be in that pristine and vibrant country but even before I learned about the Gardens by the Bay or the Sentosa Island, I’ve known that I must see Haji Lane. From seeing a local TV series back in the Philippines that had some of its scenes shoot in that place to my friends who’ve been there, I was enticed. Before we went off, I Googled the things I could find and do in Haji Lane. There I stumbled upon Shop Wonderland. The photos I’ve seen in Google and in their Instagram account made me even more excited to see the place.
When we reached Haji Lane, I immediately caught sight of this cafe. It was a weekday morning so there weren’t really a lot of visitors.
To me, it exudes the quaint vibe which instantly drew me in. Once inside, the first thing that caught my eyes was how the ceiling was beautifully adorned with colorful ribbons and lights in varying floral designs and colors. The walls and tables are embellished with greens, lamps and simple framed art. Fruit juices in their cute little bottles were neatly lined up in the counters and bars.
I love how their menu of drinks isn’t too lengthy nor too short. Even the mere view of their cakes will make you salivate. Again, I like it that there aren’t too many to choose from. The variety is just enough. We tried their iced chocolate, iced peppermint and the Earl Grey Lavender cake which cost us SGD 25.60 in total.
We chose to have our food on the second level which is again another space of art. This level has so many flowers, plants, word art and other home decor. There’s a florist engrossed in doing different arrangements which were all very pretty. Besides being done very creatively, I loved every message on each word art.
The dining tables were of course also crafty. Unlike most cafes that have a uniform set or sets of tables and chairs, Shop Wonderland had every corner different. There were three tables in this level and the lone empty one was just a corner in the window with plushy pillows in candy colors and a center table that’s knee-level. This corner is perfect for ladies’ afternoon chat. The setup on that little space is very comfy.
Onto the food. I’m a chocolate person and I would mostly always order and feast on anything chocolate but this time I like the iced peppermint so much more than the iced chocolate. I enjoyed the super cool feel in my mouth in every sip and little scoop of ice cream. My eyes feasted on its presentation too! The cake was just a good match for both as it isn’t really very sweet thus balances the sugary surge from the drinks.
The place, the vibe and the food are perfect. Maybe just a little more cheer from the staff would make it even better. The place displays the happy (after all) and calm vibe.
Overall, I would give Shop Wonderland four out of five stars. If you ever find yourself in Singapura, go and experience it yourself! #
